Residents of Ekiti State across the 16 local governments on Saturday trooped out enmas to participate in the monthly sanitation exercise.
The residents also during the exercise aplaouded the government for the provisions of dino bins as they make ise of the bins.
Reports from various parts of the State, particularly in Ado-Ekiti, the capital of the state, residents were seen engaging in thorough cleaning of their surroundings and utilizing the designated dino bins provided by the State Government.
The exercise supervised by the officials of the Ministry of Environment and Ekiti State Waste Management Agency (EKSWMA) created awareness about the importance of maintaining a clean environment and properly disposing of refuse.
Briefing Journalists during the conduct of the exercise, the Director General of EKSWMA, Mr. Olasunkanmi Onipede, commended the residents for their exemplary conduct and for utilizing the strategically bins provided by the state government.
He expressed appreciation for their supports towards making the state clean and habitat for living, he also thanked the security agents, environmental officials, and officers of the Ekiti State Road Traffic Agency during the conduct of the exercise.
Onipede further praised residents, particularly shop owners, for their efforts in clearing drains around their establishments and motorists for abiding with the staying off the roads during the exercise.
Emphasizing the significance of maintaining clean habits on a daily basis, he urged residents not to wait for the monthly sanitation exercise before cleaning their surroundings but to make it a regular practice.
The Director General issued a stern warning to those still engaging in indiscriminate dumping of refuse in drainages, road medians, and other unauthorized areas, stating that strict sanctions would be imposed on offenders.
Some residents who spoke with Journalists during the exercise, expressed gratitude to the present administration in Ekiti State under the leadership of Governor Biodun Oyebanji for providing dino bins at strategic locations in the State to curb the problem of indiscriminate refuse disposal.
They pledged their commitments to maintaining a clean and safe environment at all times.
