The apex youth group in Ode-Irele, the Coalition of Ìrele Progressive Youth Movement (CIPYM) has commended Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, for the appointment of warrant chiefs to begin the selection an occupant of the long-vacant Olofun of Ode-Irele stool.

 

 

The youth group in a letter dated 19th of April , 2026, addressed to the Governor, a copy which was made available to the Hope, appreciate the Governor and described the move as a mark of respect to the traditional institution in the state.

 

 

The letter signed by the National President of the youth group, Comrade Michael Akinboyo, alongside other executive members demanded for what they called a free and transparency exercise, devoid of monitization in the selection process.

 

 

Describing Governor Aiyedatiwa as a leader who has much respect for the traditional institutions in the state, advocated for a transparency, justice and integrity among the chief makers and other concerned authorities during the selection process.

 

 

The youth who also condemned in strong term a purported move by some individuals in the town who it said they want to forcefully imposed themselves on the town.

The group who volunteered itself to monitor the process that will lead to a free selection exercise as soon as it begins, noted that the move is heated towards ensuring free and transparent selection exercise.

“Mr Governor, we write to you at a critical time in the history of Irele town following the official appointment of Warrant Chiefs ahead of the installation of a new Olofun.

“This development, while significant, has stirred deep concern among indigenes and observers who believe that the process must not only be lawful, but also credible, transparent, and rooted in the true will of the people.

“The throne of Irele is not just a position of authority, it is a sacred symbol of our heritage, unity, and identity. Any attempt, whether direct or indirect, to influence or manipulate this process risks undermining the peace and long-standing traditions of the land” it stated.

The youth equally made passionate appeal to the Governor and all relevant authorities in charge of the selection to ensure that due process is strictly followed without bias or external interference.

It stressed the needs that the voices of the people and rightful stakeholders are heard and respected, uphold the integrity of traditional institutions by ensuring fairness, justice, and accountability at every stage of the exercise.

“At this defining moment, neutrality is not enough, leadership must be seen, felt and trusted by the people. We believe strongly that your intervention and oversight will help preserve peace, prevent conflict, and ensure that the eventual emergence of a new Olofun reflects legitimacy, honor, and unity.

“Let it be known that the people are watching, and history will remember the role played by every authority at this crucial time” it stated.
