The Honourable Abiola Makinde (HAM) Volunteers Group has insisted that the ranking member of the Federal House of Representatives, Honourable Dr Abiola Makinde deserves to recontest for the third term.
The volunteer group in a statement by its media Manager, Comrade Ayorinde Adetula, on behalf of it’s Director General, Gbenro Akinkuolie, explained that Honourable Abiola Makinde for continuity is the people’s choice and the choice shall stand by all possible means.
The statement titled: “SETTING THE RECORDS STRAIGHT: HON. DR. ABIOLA MAKINDE AND THE INCONTROVERTIBLE CASE FOR CONTINUITY”
The volunteers group said it considered it necessary to restate, for the benefit of those bereft of historical context, the compelling reasons, Hon. Dr. Abiola Makinde deserves to continue serving the good people of Ondo East and West Federal Constituency in the Green Chamber, a mandate popularly demanded and overwhelmingly earned.
‘”The fallacious argument that Ondo has never granted a third term” is both historically inaccurate and constitutionally unsound. History bears eloquent testimony to the contrary:
“(a) Senator Gbenga Ogunniya, fondly called “Epe”, represented Ondo Central Senatorial District in the Senate for 12 consecutive years across three terms.
“(b) Hon. Joseph Akinlaja contested for a third term as Member representing Ondo East/West Federal Constituency, though he was not re-elected.
“The 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended, imposes no term limit* on membership of the House of Representatives. To arrogate to oneself the power to abridge the constitutional right of an individual to seek re-election is both undemocratic and contemptuous of the rule of law.
“Those opposed to Hon. Dr. Makinde’s aspiration should test their popularity at the ballot rather than resort to subterfuge. Let them procure nomination forms, canvass party leaders or voters as the case may be, and contest the primaries — instead of disparaging party supremacy and established structures.
“It appears some revisionists have conveniently forgotten that the *All Progressives Congress had never won Ondo East and West Federal Constituency* prior to the advent of Hon. Dr. Abiola Makinde. He broke that jinx, not from the comfort of an established party, but from the platform of a newly founded *African Democratic Congress (ADC)— a feat that underscores his grassroots appeal and political dexterity.
“Since his entry into the APC, Hon. Dr. Makinde has been a loyal, committed, and stabilizing party man. He is not one to defy party directives or exhibit desperation under any guise. His brand of politics is anchored on service, not subversion; on party discipline, not personal desperation.
“His stewardship in the Green Chamber has been marked by visible constituency projects, youth empowerment, scholarship schemes, and responsive representation. The clamor for his return is therefore not orchestrated — it is organic, widespread, and rooted in verifiable performance.
“We advise those weaponizing personal vendetta to score ephemeral political points to desist and channel their energy into productive enterprise. It beggars belief that a handful of individuals would abandon all legitimate pursuits on a Monday morning to besiege the Governor’s Office in protest, if not for want of gainful engagement.
“Political opposition is welcome; political mischief is not. Vendetta is not a manifesto. Blackmail is not a blueprint. Ondo East and West deserves developmental politics, not destructive propaganda.
“The demand for *Hon. Dr. Abiola Makinde’s* continuity is a covenant between a performing representative and an appreciative constituency. It is not a gift to be negotiated by political jobbers. It is a mandate to be renewed by the people.
“Let the naysayers be reminded: *Democracy is not a conspiracy of the few against the will of the many.
“Abiola Makinde for continuity is the people’s choice — and the people’s choice shall stand” the group reaffirmed.
