A retired Permanent Secretary from the Ekiti state civil service, Mr Babatunde Alokan has been arraigned before a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ado-Ekiti over an allegations of stealing government vehicle.
Alokan, who retired from the civil service in 2024 was alleged to have absconded with a vehicle allegedly belonging to the Ekiti State Government following his retirement from the civil service.
According to the Prosecutor, Mr. Oriyomi Akinwale, the defendant was arrested and detained after he failed to produce the vehicle following which he was arraigned on Thursday, April 17.
Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun of Court 1 sitting in Ado-Ekiti, however granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million with one surety in like sum, and who must produce a landed property with Cof O in Ado-Ekiti Magisterial district.
The surety, must also be a top civil servant with evidence of tax clearance of one year, the conditions he was unable to meet, hence was remanded in the Custodial facility, along Afao-Ekiti road throughout the Easter celebrations.
While the case has been adjourned till May 9, 2025 by the court for hearing, the wife was however sighted in the Court premises on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, but declined comment on whether they have been able to meet the bail conditions or not.
It could be recalled that former Governor, Kayode Fayemi, reinstated Alokan along four others in 2018 who were allegedly retired from the state civil service by the Ayodele Fayose administration.
Their reinstatement followed the hearing of their petitions by the National Human Rights Commission, which declared that they were unfairly treated.
