A Non-governmental Organisation, Gbenga Fawehinmi Foundation (GFF) has disclosed that it has empowered not less than 11,000 students and pupils from various primary and secondary schools across the country, since it was founded in 2016.
The foundation said apart from awarding scholarship to prospective students from primary and secondary schools, it has also distributed books, uniform and instructional materials estimated about several millions of naira to students and pupils who were selected through a survey conducted by the foundation.
The Director, in charge of programmes in the foundation, Mr Joshua Aremu, spoke in Ondo town on Tuesday, while distributing books, school bags and other instructional materials to pupils and students of various primary and secondary schools across the country.
The programme attended by students, parents, guidance, councilors from various secondary schools, staff of the organization as wells as officials from the Ondo State ministry of education among others.
The GFF Director of Programmes who described the distributions of the materials as a celebration of another remarkable milestone in the history of the nine years old foundation.
Explained that a total number of 185 students who will benefited from the current distribution are already enrolled in the scholarship scheme of the foundation.
The gesture which he said reflects the unwavering commitment to empowering the young minds and removing barriers to quality education in Nigeria.
Describing education as a powerful tool for transformation in the society, the GFF programmes Director noted that the foundation believes that every child, regardless of background deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and lead in the nearest future.
“These materials are not just supplies, they are instruments of hope, tools for success, and seeds for a brighter future.
While appreciating the founder of the foundation, Bar Gbenga Fawehinmi, over what he described as his tirelessly efforts to ensure that illiteracy becomes a thing of the past in Ondo town, State and Nigeria in general.
Earlier in his remarks, the Education Secretary, Ondo west local government, Bar Maruf Bada, commended the foundation over its efforts at complimenting several activities of the government in the areas of educational development in the state.
The Education Secretary who disclosed the plans of the Ondo State Government to establish an agency that will be responsible in passing recommendations to the activities of the GFF and other Non-governmental Organizations that are promoting the development of education in the state.
Bada who lamented on the activities of those he called suspected burglars attacking various schools across Ondo State, but assured that the Ondo State Government has concluded plans to organize another agency that will be safeguarding properties and amenities provided in schools by the government.
The highpoint of the programme held at the main hall of the Ansar-ur-deen Comprehensive High School, Ondo town was the presentation of the materials to the beneficiaries, delivery of goodwill messages and admonition to the students to mention a few.
