An Ekiti State High Court, sitting in Ado-Ekiti, has sentenced seventy years old grandpa to life improvement for having canal knowledge of his granddaughter.
The accused person whose name was given as Mr Sule Adeola, was until the incident a professional bricklayer in Ado-Ekiti, capital of Ekiti State.
The convict was arraigned before Justice Blessing Ajileye on 22nd of June, 2023, on a one count charge bordering on rape.
According to the charge ” that Sule Adeola on 2nd June 2023 at the Federal Housing Estate in Ado Ekiti did rape a ten year old girl, the offense is contrary to section 31 (1) of the Child’s Right Law, Cap. C7, laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
In her testimony before the court, the victim said, ” My mother is late and my father stays in Abeokuta, I am living with my grandmother. Daddy Sule was my grandmother’s neighbour, anytime I was sent on an errand, he would call me to his room, asked me to lay on his bed, pulled down my dresses and insert his pennis in my vagina.
“He has been doing this every week since year 2021, I felt so much pain anytime he did it but I did not tell my grandmother because daddy Sule said, he would kill me” she concluded.
To proof his case beyond reasonable doubt, the Prosecutor Inspector Julius Ajibare called four witnesses and tendered defendant’s statement and medical report as exhibits while the defendant spoke in his own defence through his counsel, Adefolaju Ayobioloja and called three witnesses.
In his judgment, Justice Blessing Ajileye said, it is unfortunate and saddening that recorded cases of intimate person’s sexual assault, hits new high every day in Ekiti State.
“From the totality of evidence on record, I am more persuaded by the prosecution’s evidence that there was proof of penetration, there is no scintilla of evidence available in the contrary. In all, I found that the prosecution proved the most essential ingredient of rape, the defendant penetrated the vagina of the victim and I so hold.
“The defendant, Sule Adeola is found guilty of the offence of rape of a 10-year-old girl as charged , he is accordingly sentence to life imprisonment.
