A former Special Adviser on political to ex-governor Kayode Fayemi, Prince Kayode Olowookere, has described as irrelevant, hateful speech, character assassination and cyberbullying the speech made by one Reuben Awoyemi on his reaction over the purported endorsement of Governor Biodun Oyebanji for second time by some members of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Ekiti State.
Prince Olowookere, a Chieftain of APC, Oye local government area of the state, had during an interview recently in Ado-Ekiti, cautioned members of APC in Oye local government to be careful and follow the normal protocols before endorsing any governorship candidates and carry along all leaders and stakeholders in the area before endorsing any aspirants ahead of the next governorship election in the state.
Awoyemi, a former member Ekiti State House of Assembly, an apostle of Governor Biodun Oyebanji, had in a reaction carpeted Olowookere over his comment on the plans of some members of the APC in Oye local government to endorse Governor Biodun Abayomi for second term.
Reacting, Olowookere said “‘ It has just been brought to my notice the hateful speech, assassination of character and cyberbullying carried out against my person by one Reuben Awoyemi in an acidic reaction to a candid opinion I expressed in a news interview on the rumour of endorsement about to be carried out in my local government.
“Reuben Awoyemi’s vituperation as a response to this harmless news item shows how sadly some elements in our great party, APC regard leaders of the party and are encouraged to stifle honest and well-meaning criticisms or opinions.
” The sponsored cyberbullying by political minions that I was subjected to as seen in his reaction is an indication of how low some of our people can go for personal gains. No matter the scheming by my political enemies to rubbish my integrity politically, I remain resolute and focused”
Describing himself as a loyal member of the APC in Ekiti State, Olowookere said Awoyemi has often stayed within the fold of the party and act as a mole for opposing camps. “His reference to (JKF) as his platform would have been hilarious if it had not been so false.
“I strongly suspect that he is out to destroy the party structure by disregarding the established norms and disrespecting Elders even the name of our leader, Dr.John Kayode Fayemi.
” Awoyemi is known in his constituency and local government for the saying ” No more Baba so pe” literally meaning ” we don’t want want to hear what the elders are saying.
“He harbours a deep-seated grouse against JKF when he was not picked for a second term at the House of Assembly and a more focused candidate was favoured.
“Reuben Awoyemi is hinting that the leaders and elders of the party in Oye local government should not be carried along in any decisions to be taken in the local government.
“I have received the intelligence that Awoyemi and his cohorts are behind the plan to smear my integrity by planting my name and spreading the rumour
that I have decamped to the Social Democratic Party (SDP)
“He can not deny how he smuggled some APC members’ names into the SDP campaign list when I was still the Special Assistant to the former governor on political affairs. It all goes to show how dirty some politicians can be.
“The rumour that I decamped was later investigated by a committee set up by the then Chief of Staff and the outcome showed that it was a plot to destroy my political career under the APC party” he started.
