The Chief Medical Director (CMD) University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital ( UNIMEDTH) Ondo, Dr Michael Gbala, has disclosed that a total of 188 medical and allied health personnel will be considered in the ongoing 2025 promotion exercise conducted by the institution.
The CMD explained that the exercise which is currently conducted across various departments and cadres in the institution about 188 staff are to be promoted, 149 among the 188 are senior staff, while 39 are junior officers.
He explained that the move is part of the commitment of the Ondo State Government to reward excellence and strengthening its workforce particularly in the health sector.
Noted that the promotion exercise has been widely described as well-organized, inclusive, and a true reflection of the institution’s dedication to merit-based career advancement.
While commending the Ondo State Government for what he described as its proactive stance on staff welfare, consistent support and commitment to policy continuity.
“This exercise would not have been possible without the government’s unwavering support. We are witnessing the impact of proactive governance and how our staff are being motivated and empowered to grow professionally.
“It is more than a routine exercise, it’s about fostering excellence and building a motivated workforce. The atmosphere is calm, organized, and respectful. We are doing everything possible to ensure a smooth experience for all involved”
The medical practitioner emphasized that the promotion process is strictly merit-based, with only staff who meet the established criteria being considered. commending the conducive environment created for the exercise, the CMD noted that staff were provided with refreshments and a comfortable setting to ease the process.
Addressing the broader challenge of staff retention in the face of the ongoing “Japa” syndrome, Dr. Gbala highlighted several strategic measures implemented by the hospital to includes supportive work environment, competitive welfare packages, regular training opportunities, active research involvement, and flexible work schedules among others.
In his own, the Director of Administration in the institution, Mr. Esan Titus, described the exercise as apt, he commended both the state government and hospital management over various activities embarked upon in the hospital aimed at better the lots of staff of the institution.
“This promotion exercise is a testament to effective leadership and sound policy implementation. It has been meticulously planned and executed, we thank the government for continuously supporting our growth, he stated.
Similarly, the representative of the Civil Service Commission who also monitored the exercise, Mr. Dele Isola, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the exercise, noted that the process has been orderly and transparent.
The promotion exercise is expected to continue over the coming days, with staff from various units participating in interviews and assessments.
The hospital community remains optimistic about the outcome, as the exercise not only promotes career progression, but also reflects the institution’s growing capacity to deliver quality healthcare through a motivated and competent workforce.
