A 41-year-old businessman in Olotu community, Igbokoda, Ilaje local government area of Ondo State, Mr Malo Ojogo, has accused the officer of the Nigeria Navy, Ugbonla Operational Base of allegedly brutalizing him.

 

Though, the Ugbonla Naval Base, through its Public Relations Unit, denied the allegation.

Malo Ojogo, alleged that he was left with neck and ribs fracture, broken left ankle, femur, toes, and a dislocated right arm after the severe beating he got from the officers.

 

Narrating his ordeal, Ojogo from his sick bed at the Igbokoda General Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment, said he was in his house in Olotu community on the fateful day at about 9:am, when about six Naval Officers armed with gun suddenly knocked his door.

 

He explained that though he had earlier had money transaction with one of his business partner, Mr Igbamerun Olasimbo, who had threatened to come and arrest him with Naval Officers.

 

“Immediately they knocked at my door in companied of Mr Igbamerun Olasimbo, they forced me out, I was beaten to stupor by the officers, my wife was also harassed.

 

“I made all efforts to explain to the Officers that I have earlier sent the money to the complainant, but the officers refused to listen as I was beaten to stupour and I was later whisked away to the naval base in Ugbonla.

 

“As I appealed to them to allow me to contact my lawyer, one of the officers started hitting me with his belt boot and even refused my wife entry into the premise of the base”

 

According to the doctor’s assessment, Ojogo who is in a critical condition, has suffered neck fracture, broken left ankle, femur and toes, and a dislocated right arm.

 

Ojogo, while lamenting his situation, has demanded that justice be served, saying he had also informed his lawyer of his ordeal. While the matter was also reported at the Igbokoda police station for proper documentation.

 

“I have done nothing wrong, both of us (the complainant) were business partner. These officers have treated me unjustly and I want justice.

 

He added that a formal report, apart from the Igbokoda police station, he had equally contacted the office of the public defender for proper action.
