Three men were on Tuesday arraigned before an Akure Magistrate’s Court over alleged conspiracy and attempted kidnapping in Ore, headquarters of Odigbo local government area of Ondo State.
The defendants, Muhammed Bashir, Yakubu Abubakar and Usman Abubakar were brought before the court on a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy and attempted kidnapping, preferred by operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, Amotekun Corps.
According to the prosecuting counsel, D.S. Monster-Shagba, the defendants allegedly conspired on December 21, 2025, at about 7:00 p.m., at Shina Camp, Bature, Ore, within the jurisdiction of the court, to commit kidnapping.
The prosecutor further alleged that the defendants, at the same time and place, attempted to kidnap Murtala Azeez and Adebisi Mutiu with the intention of collecting ransom.
The offences, according to the charge, are contrary to and punishable under Section 3 of the Ondo Anti-Abduction Law, 2010, and Section 324 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.
Monster-Shagba urged the court to remand the defendants at the Olokuta Correctional Centre, Akure, pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
However, defence counsel, G.O. Omoedu, opposed the application and prayed the court for an adjournment to enable him file a counter-affidavit in response to the prosecution’s request.
In his ruling, Magistrate Damilola Sekoni adjourned the matter to February 27 for hearing of the application and ordered that the defendants be remanded in Amotekun custody, pending further proceedings.
