A pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organization, the Defense for Yoruba People’s Rights (DYPR), has stressed the needs for the Governors in the southwest region of the country  to purchase drones (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) to fight crime in the region.
The group particularly called on the Ondo State Government to procure more operational vehicles for the police in the state, saying the move would enable them to fight crime and secure the state against imminent attack.
The National President of the group, Otunba Muyideen Olamoyegun, made the assertion in a release made available to Journalists in Ondo town on Saturday, explained that the move will not only assist the police in boosting the security surveillance in the state, but go a long way in exposing criminal hideouts and combat security challenges in the State.
Lamenting over what he called shortage of utility and security vehicles in some police stations across Ondo State, noted that the move has affected the performance of the police across the state.
Olamoyegun who is also a Human Rights Activist, explained that in all the 52 divisionals police stations and the 10 tactical teams across the state, barely you can find 10 vehicles in all, the development  he said has posed a serious threat and concerns to the security achitecture of the state.
The Human Rights Activist equally urged the police to always imbibe  maintainance  culture in maintaining any vehicle procure by the government, saying the development will further encourage the government to procure more vehicles to tackle the insecurity that are currently ravaging some parts of the country.
Speaking further on the benefits of the drones to the police in Ondo State and other states in the southwest region, the Human Rights Activist, explained that the equipment will be use by the police to monitor the activities of the kidnappers in the bush and thereby enhance the operations of the police.
He further commended the Ondo State Police Commissioner, for putting in place some other measures that will positively enhance the operations of the police across the state, urged residents to always cooperate with the police vin ensuring a safety society.
The DYPR National President equally  suggested the needs for  refurbishing and for the government in resuscitating  some derelict and abandoned vehicles belonging to the Ondo State Police. Command
He made passionate appeal to the Ondo State Government to procure more vehicles to the police,  saying the development will not only enhance good surveillance in the State, but further expose the  hideouts of those he called criminals terrorising the peace of the State.
