The Ekiti State Primary Health Care Development Agency (SPHCDA) has organised an awareness and sensitisation programme for stakeholders in the state ahead of the forthcoming vaccination against measles.
The programme attended by Health Educators, Area Education Officers, Community Based Organisation, youths leaders and market women’s across the sixteen local government areas of the state.
Others who attended the sensitisation programme are, representatives of the muslim and christians community, traditional rulers, members of the Nigeria Union of Teachers Ekiti State as well as leaders of various ethnic groups including Hausa, Igbo and Ebira communities among others.
Speaking during the programme, the Director General of the SPHCDA in Ekiti State , Dr Seluwa Gilbert, said the programme tagged “Intergrated Meseals Campaign” organised by the agency aimed towards educating members of the public before the commencement of the week-long exercise.
He disclosed that the programme which will begin on the 5th of October, will end on the 11th of October 2024 across the sixteen local government areas of the state.
The medical practitioner further explained that the agency is targeting to cover 95 percent of eligible children who are between the age of 9-month to 59- month will vaccinate against meseals.
While soliciting for the supports of relevant stakeholders in the state over the success of the exercise, the Ekiti SPHCDA Director urged them to take the campaigns to their various communities and settlements on the needs to ensure the success of the exercise.
Also speaking the representative of the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) Mrs Yetunde Akinyosoye, urged the stakeholders to cooperate with the agency on ensuring the success of the vaccination exercise.
She equally tasked the community leaders to assist the agency in making more awareness campaigns to the people of their various communities on the needs to take their eligible childrens out for the week-long vaccination exercise.
Similarly, the representative of the Association of Ekiti Traditional Chieftaincy Title Holders who is also the Odofinyin of Iyin-Ekiti, Irepodun/Ifelodun local government area of the state, commended the PHC for organizing the awareness programme, je promised to take the campaigns to his community and ensure the success of the exercise in the area.
