The Primary Health Care Department Agency (PHCDA) in Ekiti State has organised an awareness and sensitisation programme ahead of the forthcoming vaccination against measles in the state.
The programme attended by Health Educators, Area Education Officers, Community Based Organisation, youths leaders and market women’s across the sixteen local government areas of the state.
Others who attended the sensitisation programme are, representatives of the muslim and christians community, traditional rulers, members of the Nigeria Union of Teachers Ekiti State as well as leaders of various ethnic groups including Hausa, Igbo and Ebira communities among others.
Speaking during the programme, the Director General of PHCDA in Ekiti State, Dr Seluwa Gilbert, said the programme tagged “Intergrated Meseals Campaign” organised by the agency was meant to educate members of the public before the commencement of the week-long exercise.
He disclosed that the programme which will begin on the 5th of October, will end on the 11th of October 2024 across the sixteen local government areas of the state.
The medical practitioner further explained that the agency is targeting about 656,000 children who are between the age of 9 months to 59 months.
While soliciting for the supports of relevant stakeholders in the state over the success of the exercise, the Ekiti PHCDA Director urged them to take the campaigns to their various communities and settlements on the needs to ensure the success of the exercise.
Also speaking the representative of the Association of Ekiti Traditional Chieftaincy Title Holders who is also the Odofinyin of Iyin-Ekiti, Irepodun/Ifelodun local government area of the state, commended the PHC for organizing the awareness programme, je promised to take the campaigns to his community and ensure the success of the exercise in the area.
